J-pop new talents

MAY 24TH 2024, 21:56 GMT+1

Yoasobi's musical style merges pop, rock, and electronic music. Tomonori Shiba from Cinra labeled their genre as monogatari ongaku. Ayase's inspirations include music from the '80s and '90s as well as K-pop, while Ikura finds influence in Western music, such as Disney tunes, folk, and country. Ayase has named Exile, Sukima Switch, Kobukuro, Radwimps, and Aiko as significant influences, while Ikura cites Taylor Swift. Yoasobi's sound and style have been likened to other Japanese groups like Yorushika and Zutomayo, recognized for their Vocaloid backgrounds and animated music videos. These three bands are collectively referred to by the term "Yakōsei" (夜好性, lit. "night-loving scene") because they all feature the word "夜" (meaning "night") in their names.

Yoasobi debuted in 2019 as a Japanese pop duo under Sony Music Entertainment Japan. The pair features Vocaloid producer Ayase and singer-songwriter Lilas Ikuta, who performs under the name Ikura. They center their music around the concept of "turning novels into songs," initially inspired by short stories from Monogatary.com, a creative writing platform associated with their label. Over time, their collection has grown to include a variety of sources, such as works by renowned authors, literary texts, letters, theatrical scripts, and more.

The subsequent month, they were featured on Yumi Matsutoya's 50th-anniversary greatest hits album Yuming Kanpai!!, contributing to a remake of "Chūō Freeway" (1976) with new material derived from Matsutoya's biographical novel Subete no Koto wa Message Shōsetsu Yuming (2022) by Mariko Yamauchi. Additionally, they took part in the seventh installment of the television special 18Fes, performing the exclusive song "Heart Beat" alongside 1,000 teenagers aged 17 to 20, which aired on December 25, with the song released the following day. Gaining prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan, Yoasobi's debut single "Yoru ni Kakeru" catapulted the duo to fame. The song spent six non-consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Japan Hot 100 and led the 2020 year-end chart without a CD release. Alongside "Yoru ni Kakeru," three other tracks earned diamond certifications: "Gunjō," inspired by *Blue Period*; "Kaibutsu," the opening theme for *Beastars*; and "Idol," the opening theme for Oshi no Ko. "Idol" broke the record for the longest-running number one in Japan Hot 100 history, staying at the top for 22 non-consecutive weeks, and made Yoasobi the first Japanese act to lead the Billboard Global Excl. Silvestro in Fear Factory

Silvestro's musical talents and passion come from a place of family tradition and experience. His mother is a professional vocal coach, and his father is a blues guitarist and songwriter. This background has no doubt given him a unique insight into the world of music and performance. Silvestro's talent and experience in metal, combined with his familial history in music, make him a perfect fit for Fear Factory. With his new role in the band, he will no doubt bring a new perspective and fresh energy to their sound.

Silvestro's musical journey began at age 12, when he first picked up the drums and found a passion for rhythm and groove. He learned to scream and sing in a metal style, finding a catharsis through the genre's intense, emotional expression. For Silvestro, metal was not just about the music - it was a way to express himself and find a release for his inner thoughts and feelings. As he takes on the role of Fear Factory's new vocalist, Silvestro will no doubt bring this raw.

In a story that could have been ripped from the pages of a Hollywood script, Silvestro's journey to becoming the new vocalist for Fear Factory was nothing short of a fairy tale. After a global search for the perfect vocalist to fill the shoes of previous singers, Silvestro was selected from a sea of hopefuls. It's a tale of one person being plucked from relative obscurity and given the chance to fulfil their dreams, much like Mark Wahlberg's character in 2001's Rock Star. Silvestro may have never imagined that he would one day be a part of such a story, but now he is

As luck would have it, Silvestro's journey to becoming the new vocalist for Fear Factory began with a simple cover video on social media. Silvestro uploaded a medley of tracks from the band's landmark album, Soul of a New Machine, never imagining that the video would find its way to the eyes of guitarist Dino Cazares. Much to Silvestro's surprise, Cazares was impressed by the cover, leading to a correspondence between the two that would ultimately lead to Silvestro's appointment as Fear Factory's new vocalist. Akai attended The New School in New York City, where he studied jazz and performance. During this time, he also began to explore the world of poetry and spoken word, which would later influence his work as a rapper. After graduation, he continued to hone his craft, writing and performing at open mic nights and other events. It was through this process that he developed the unique style and approach that he is known for today.

Akai Solo's name reflects his diverse cultural heritage, with the "akai" meaning red in Japanese and the "solo" alluding to his Nigerian roots. This reflects a strong sense of identity and pride in his background, which is reflected in his music. He also chose the name to reflect his desire to rise above the ignorance and violence that he sees in the world, and to instead become a voice of hope and redemption. It's a powerful statement about the transformative power of music

akais.jpg

Aesop Rock's mention of the name "Shamar" in his lyrics unexpectedly resonated with Akai Solo, due to his own connection to someone with that name. This chance connection was a reminder of the powerful influence of art, and how it can create unexpected connections between people and ideas. Even though Akai's early rap group was not very successful, it was an important step in his journey as an artist. "During Akai Solo's time at Benjamin Banneker Academy in Brooklyn, he and his friends formed a rap group called B.D.B. They were new to the art of rap, and their skills were still developing. Despite this, they had a strong vision of using their music to fight ignorance and bring understanding. They embodied this vision with the name KITE, which stood for 'Killing Ignorance Throughout Eternity'."

Yet, beneath the surface, there is a deep well of feeling, a sense of yearning and longing that resonates with the listener. It is as if the music is whispering a secret, inviting the listener to lean in closer to hear what it has to say.

The solo debut of Jisoo from BLACKPINK is highly anticipated and considered one of the most impactful debuts in history. Despite Jisoo's exceptional vocal abilities and influential position among female idols, she has not yet released an official solo track. Up until now, she has only showcased her talents through covers of well-known songs during performances and concerts. With no previous original soundtrack or collaborative feature to provide any clues, Jisoo's solo debut is like a clean slate. However, given her impressive skills in both songwriting and singing, her first single is expected to be incredibly successful and make a significant impact.
