Nigeria singer David Adeleke, aka Davido,who is a Nigerian-American singer, song-writer and record producer made a remarkable move that is yet to be recorded among Nigeria artists.He jokingly posted on his Twitter asking his friends to donate money for him to celebrate his 29th birthday.

Stated on his page “if you know I've given you a hit song send me money". A few minutes after his posts phone and also his account boosted from zero nairas to millions donated from folks within and outside Nigeria. Influential and top business tycoons like Femi Otetola, Don Jazzy, Eniola Badmus, Obi Cubana, and music artists donated while some tripled the amount.

In the space of 2days, the amount received was more than 180 million, although in July when Obi Cubana had his mom's funeral and it was a show of fame and money but in Davido's case it took a different turn. Both shared the same kind of social power and they got what they deserve because of their goodwill, generosity, and willingness to help others. In his tweet, he said “I might give all way"even when the donation was still dropping in, true to his statement he made the big donation announcement on Saturday.

“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to my friends, colleagues, fans, and the public for the generous expression of love in recent days,” he wrote in a statement. “In my usual playful manner, I requested a few days ago that my friends and colleagues send money in celebration of my birthday. The response and outcome exceeded my expectations, as I received about NGN 200,000,000.00 (Two hundred million nairas) in less than two days. I truly appreciate everyone who donated hard-earned funds and I am very thankful for your generosity.”

“I have always been passionate about giving back and helping people. Given this, I’m delighted to announce that all the funds received, totaling NGN 200,000,000.00, (Two hundred million nairas) will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria as well as the Paroche foundation. In addition, I will be making a personal donation of NGN 50,000,000.00, (Fifty million naira) bringing the total amount to NGN 250,000,000.00 (Two hundred and fifty million nairas),” he added.
Davido’s gesture has been widely welcomed by many who believe that human needs should be prioritized when it comes to reasons for forgiving. Instead of funding the lifestyle of celebrities who will largely live flamboyantly with the donations.

David said “my goal is to do this fundraising every year to celebrate my birthday and give back to people in need. I hope that my friends, fans, colleagues in the industry, and the public will continue to support me as I drive this cause.”
Cases of ailing people, who can’t afford medical care flood Nigeria’s internet space every day, soliciting help. It is hoped that Davido’s move will inspire others who have the more or equal social status to use their influence in like manner, to generate funds for charitable causes in Nigeria.
