GERMAN ROCK BAND-TOKIO HOTEL

 

German rock band Tokio Hotel was established in 2001 by guitarist Tom Kaulitz, singer Bill Kaulitz, drummer Gustav Sch?fer, and bassist Georg Listing in Magdeburg. The group's two number-one albums and four number-one singles in their home Germany helped the group sell approximately 5 million CDs and DVDs there. The band released Schrei, their debut German-language album, on Island Records in 2005 after recording an unpublished demo-CD under the moniker "Devilish" and terminating their contract with Sony BMG. More over 500,000 copies of Schrei were sold worldwide, and four of its singles reached the top five in both Germany and Austria.

The band's debut English album Scream and their second German album Zimmer 483, which together have sold over a million copies worldwide, were both published in 2007. These albums helped the group win their first MTV European Music Award for Best InterAct. The former, Zimmer 483, produced two singles that peaked in the top twenty in new markets like Portugal, Spain, and Italy, while the latter, Scream, produced three top five singles in Germany. Near the end of 2007, Zimmer 483 - Live In Europe, their debut live CD, was made available. Scream, their English album, was released on March 25 in Canada. It was initially scheduled for release on April 29 in the US, but that date had to be moved to May 6 owing to voice issues with Bill Kaulitz.

MUSIC HISTORY

Tokio Hotel was started by twin brothers Tom and Bill Kaulitz, bassist Georg Listing, drummer Gustav Sch?fer, and guitarist Tom Kaulitz. The four first came together in 2001 following a live performance at a Magdeburg bar, where Listing and Sch?fer, who were acquainted from music school, sat in the audience and watched Tom and Bill Kaulitz perform on stage. The group quickly started performing in talent shows and small concerts under the name Devilish. Peter Hoffmann, a music producer, came across Bill Kaulitz when he entered "It's Raining Men" in a children's Star Search competition in 2003 when he was thirteen years old. He lost in the quarterfinals.

Due to their love of the city of Tokyo, Japan, and the fact that they were constantly traveling and staying in hotels, Devilish changed their name to Tokio Hotel. Hoffmann brought on David Jost and Pat Benzner to the group of writers and creators soon after Sony BMG signed them to a contract, and he had them teach the teenagers songwriting and instrument playing. Unfortunately, Sony ended their contract with them just before the debut album's release. In 2005, Universal Music Group signed a partnership with Tokio Hotel and created a marketing strategy. The group is currently one of Germany's biggest bands.

SCHREI

Through the Monsoon, their debut single, immediately soared the charts, debuting at #15 on the German official Media Control single charts on August 20, 2005, and eventually peaking at #1 on August 26, 2005. It also peaked at #1 on the Austrian music charts. "Schrei," their second single, reached the fifth spot in the German charts. On September 19, 2005, they released Schrei, their debut album, which was later certified platinum. Along with their gang of producers, Peter Hoffmann, David Jost, Pat Benzer, and Dave Roth, singer Bill Kaulitz wrote these two songs. "Rette mich" ("Rescue Me") and "Der letzte Tag" ("The Last Day"), the third and fourth singles released in 2006, both peaked at number one. A B-side from "Der letzte Tag" called "Wir schlie?en uns ein" was also included, and it came with a music video.

ZIMMER 483

"bers Ende der Welt," the first single from their second album Zimmer 483 (Room 483), which was eventually re-issued in English as "Ready, Set, Go!" was released on January 26, 2007, and it swiftly rose to the top of the charts. On February 28, 2007, Zimmer 483 was made available, along with a deluxe version of the album that included a DVD. "Spring nicht" ("Don't Jump"), the group's second single from the album, was made available on April 7, 2007. The Zimmer 483 tour, which accompanied the album's release, was supposed to begin in March 2007, but it was postponed by two weeks because the band members wanted a new stage. On November 16, a third single from the album "An deiner Seite (Ich bin da)" ("By Your Side") was made available. A B-side from the song, "1000 Meere" (sometimes known as "1000 Oceans"), also had a music video.

SCREAM

Tokio Hotel's debut English album, Scream, was published on June 4, 2007, across all of Europe, unlike their German CDs, which were never officially released outside of the German-speaking globe. To underscore the continuity with their previous German record Zimmer 483, the album was published in Germany under the name Room 483. They have translated a few tracks from their German albums Schrei and Zimmer 483 into English for this CD. The album's first single, "Monsoon," the English translation of "Durch den Monsun," was released. The second single from the album, "Ready, Set, Go!" (the translation of "?bers ende der Welt"), followed by "By Your Side" (the translation of "An deiner Seite") and "Don't Jump" (the translation of "Spring nicht"). They also created a video for "Scream," the English translation of their 2005 hit "Schrei," which was made available on iTunes in early March 2008.

Bill Kaulitz - lead vocals (born 1 September 1989)

On September 1st, 1989, Bill Kaulitz was born in Leipzig, East Germany. He was conceived by J?rg Kaulitz and Simone Kaulitz, a free-lance tailor. His parents separated when he and his twin brother Tom were seven years old. Gordon Tr?mper, the guitarist for the German rock group Fatun, remarried their mother. The twins' stepfather served as their musical inspiration at first. Around the age of seven and nine, he and his brother both started writing song lyrics. His main musical inspiration, according to him, is the German pop singer Nena. He has provided Arthur's voice in the German version of the movie Arthur und die Minimoys from the beginning of his acting career.

Tom Kaulitz - lead guitar (born 1 September 1989)

On September 1st, 1989, Tom Kaulitz was born in Leipzig. He is ten minutes older than Bill Kaulitz, his identical twin. Currently, Tom plays Gibson guitars. He has acknowledged Aerosmith and German hip-hop artists like Samy Deluxe as his musical influences.

George Listing - bass guitar (born 31 March 1987)

On March 31, 1987, Georg Listing was born. When he was twelve, he started playing bass, and he currently plays a Sandberg bass. He has acknowledged that Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers had a significant effect on his playing. His musical tastes also include Oasis and Die?rzte. His birthplace is Magdeburg.
