BTS BURST OUT ANOTHER HOT TRACK-BUTTER
The biggest group in the world return with yet another blockbuster single. BTS has been soaring in popularity over the past few years, Butter wastes no time laying down its funk backbone, charging forward with a chugging beat that quickly deepens with the injection of rubbery bass. The instrumental continues to build into the pre-chorus, joined by a brilliant synth that explodes as the chorus hits with full intensity. But, Butter isn’t done yet. It sidesteps the perils of a momentum-killing breakdown by diving back into that slinky bass that opened the track. The vocal arrangement was incredible.

From the very beginning, the group intersperses the lyrics’ central romantic narrative with equally sweet declarations of self-confidence. Following Jungkook’s “Smooth Criminal” reference, V joins the verse along with the bass: “Cool shade stunner / Yeah, I owe it all to my mother.” This intermittent sunny synth, including a short stepwise climb that both sets up and mirrors the chorus’ descending melody while listeners bask in Jin’s “superstar glow.”The most impressive thing about “Butter” is how much it’s able to fit into such a short amount of time without the song feeling rushed. There are multiple verses and chorus repetitions, a rap bridge, and also an instrumental break.BTS’ intentions with the track might be based around pure fun, but ‘Butter’ also has another side to it.

The song’s lyrics are full of self-assurance, like Jin and Jimin’s velvety pre-choruses of “Oh when I look in the mirror / I’ll melt your heart into two / I got that superstar glow”, while J-Hope accurately predicts the world’s response to anything BTS does (“Hot like (summer) / Ain’t no (bummer) / You be like, ‘Oh my god’”), the song was produced and written by Jenna Andrews, Rob Grimaldi, Stephen Kirk, RM, Alex Bilowitz, Sebastian Garcia, and Ron Perry. Already breaking records, “Butter” is now the fastest music video in YouTube history to hit 30 million views on YouTube (2 hours 20 minutes), breaking the record previously set by BTS with “Dynamite” (3 hours). Likely, it will break more records shortly since the BTS fandom has only grown since “Dynamite.” The life we once knew still might not return to us this summer, but at least with ‘Butter’, it assures us that the “new normal” doesn’t have to be bleak and boring. It’s still too early in the year to call a definitive Song Of The Summer, but BTS has already set the bar incredibly high.

The BTS group known as the Bangtan Boys group consists of seven members from South Korea. The band began in 2010 and debuted in 2013 under the Big Hit Entertainment. The septet—composed of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and JungKook—co-writes and co-produces much of their output. Originally a hip-hop group, their musical style has evolved to include a wide range of genres. Their lyrics, often focused on personal and social commentary, touch on the themes of mental health, troubles of school-age youth and coming-of-age, loss, the journey towards loving oneself, and individualism. Their work features references to literature and psychological concepts and includes an alternative universe storyline. The group has released several albums and performed on several world tours. They has also done more than arguably any other band to expand K-pop’s international reach — as well as the way international media and the music industry are forced to contend with K-pop,They’ve succeeded and grown alongside other bands that have also been innovating and reaching new levels of international success — like Blackpink, which in 2019 became the first K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella. Collectively, this K-pop generation is rapidly changing the conversation and pushing the limits of what K-pop is allowed to be.
With the look of things, it is an indication that the BTS group is ready and willing to keep its name on top for a very long period of time. What do you like best about BTS — the music, the moves, or the adorable members? Share your love for BTS in the comments below!
